Although I use a number of skills and software to complete a project, the process itself generally follows the phases as outlined below.
Phase 1: Kick off meeting with the client
Discuss and translate the requirements of the project into a comprehensive brief outlining such things as key messaging, points to convey to the desired target audience, type of deliverables, deadlines, time estimates, duration, desired channels for output, design constraints, branding, working files and anything else that might be required before the design & research phase begins.
Phase 2: Design & Research
Includes researching and conceptualising ideas to design storyboards according to the brief. The final look of the animation along with any key messaging and other required elements will be finalised in this phase. Notes regarding how the animation will look and feel will also be provided, but only general in nature as a lot of the animation style will come about in the next phase.
Phase 3: Animation
Once the design and storyboards have been approved, the animation phase begins where the static designs come to life in keeping with the desired look and feel. Various effects, sounds and music may be added in this stage and progress drafts are sent away for feedback and revisions before the final assets are provided.
Phase 4: Refine & Delivery of assets
Last few refinements are applied to finalise the animation. Once everyone is happy and we have approval the assets are prepared for delivery and sent away.
